The Playlist: Quarantine Music w/ Mulatto

The quarantine that has resulted due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has given me the opportunity to discover music by artists that I would not normally listen to. One of those artist is Mulatto. Now I am not new to Mulatto. I like many were first introduced to her as Ms. Mulatto on the first season of The Rap Game that aired in 2016. The then 16 year old displayed a passion for music and lyrical skill that rivaled MCs twice her age. As the winner that first season, she was expected to become a major force in the rap game. Well that didn’t happen as to my understanding, she didn’t sign the deal with Jermaine Dupri and decided to go on her own.

Utilizing a noticeably sexier image and more sexually charged lyrics, the now 21 year old artist still displays the lyrical skill and fire that made her a fan favorite on The Rap Game. As a result her music in many respects, screams to its listeners that she is not a kid anymore.

I personally have found her music quite refreshing and invigorating. As a fan of the genre, I am glad to have so many female voices in the game gain some sort of prominence. Far too long it was Nicki Minaj and no one else when it came to air play for female rappers. Mulatto’s music is a great addition to your workout playlists (especially in my case), strip club sets, or just to blast from your car or house windows during social distancing.
