During this time many of those that can work from home are doing just that. Teleworking can present challenges to normal productivity, especially since everyone else is home with you (if you don’t live alone that is). Here are some tips for making your telework day as productive as possible.

1. Don’t change your morning routine.

If you have a typical morning routine, keep at it. If you workout, continue to do so. If yo can get to the gym, there are plenty of thing that you can do at home (here). If you normally read before you head to job, then keep it up!  Keeping your routine helps to get you into a mindset of being productive.

2. Get dressed!

Do not work in your PJs! Your PJs are a sign to your brain that it’s time for bed. Getting dressed tells your body that it’s time to get ready to face the world. Even if it’s from behind the computer screen in your kitchen.

3. Set a schedule for your day.

Plan your workday. Following a schedule will increase your productivity and focus.

4. Take lots of breaks!

One can only focus on a computer screen for but so long, especially when you are at home. When you create your schedule, make sure you add breaks to it. Get up, walk around the house, eat. All of these activities are important to keeping your sanity while teleworking for long periods.

5. Work only during work hours.

One of the pitfalls of working from home is the lack of separation between home and work. When it is done, turn off your work phone and computer. If you don’t, you may be tempted to answer that after hours email or phone call.
