The Happy Hour: It’s Time For A Hot Toddy

While the official start of winter is still a few weeks away, the increasing frequenct frigid temperatures are a reminder that winter is on its way. If you are like me, cold weather instinctually makes you crave something warm to drink. A classic drink of season that can satisfy this craving is the Hot Toddy. The  cocktail traces its roots back to Ireland with variations of the recipe utilizing whisky, rum, bourbon, and even ginger ale. A symbol cold time for generations across the world, the Hot Toddy is a classic that has stood the test of time.


  • 1 oz (2 tablespoons) bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon mild honey
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup boiling-hot water
  • 1 Cinnamon stick


Mix the bourbon, honey, and lemon juice in a mug. Pour in the hot water and stir until the honey has dissolved. Garnish with cinnamon stick.
