For most the signs of Spring begin with the welcomed return of birds chirping and the increased amount of daylight (thanks daylight savings). However the Washington DC area has its own unique indicator that spring has sprung; the arrival of the cherry blossoms. The cherry blossoms around the tidal basin in Washington DC find their origins in the planting of cherry trees in 1912 that were a gift from the People of Japan to the people of the United States. The blooming of the cherry trees has become a rite of passage for spring the DC area, drawing millions of people from all corners every year.
Its hard to believe that all of our years of being in the area that the Cherry Blossom festival is an experience that never experienced until now. The scene of the crisp sunny spring day on DC’s tidal basin, littered by the shimmering blossoms was a beautiful sight to behold. Experiences like these really make you remember how beautiful nature is.
