What does an Avenger smell like and is it any good?

The scene was Philly Comic con and amongst the sights and sounds of the event stood out advertisements that littered the convention center. These advertisements were our first introduction to the Avengers line of fragrances. Just like you we instantly said “Are they serious?” We walked away and dismissed what we saw as simply another misbegotten license of a blockbuster movie property.

A few weeks later at the Baltimore Comic con we stumbled upon the Avengers fragrances again, this time at the booth of the manufacturer Jads International. After talking to the reps, they kindly gave us a sample pack of the fragrances based on Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America. Finally we would get the answer to what freedom smells like.

What do they smell like?

Our first fragrance was Smash based on the Hulk. Smash is described as a woody aquatic cologne that uses Yuzu, bergamot and tarragon to create clean, clear top notes with water lily and nutmeg. It also carries an intense woody drydown enriched with Indian sandalwood, vetiver, musk and sharp cedar. Reading all of that you can tell that Smash has a lot going on, but it words surprisingly well. Smash’ mildness is simply a mask for the intensity of the fragrance. Its subtle, but is long lasting and all encompassing but not overpowering.

Our second fragrance was Mark VII based on Iron Man. Mark VII was created using mandarin, neroli, nasturtium and jasmine layered with light patchouli. The resulting creation is very a light and fresh fragrance that is very aromatic but may be to underwhelming for some tastes.

Next in the rotation was Worthy based on the thunder god Thor himself. It is a very masculine scent that uses bergamot, frozen ginger and wheatgrass blended with a hint of fresh natural grapefruit and layered deeply with aromatic cypress, dark amber, and cedarwood. Worthy was a very unique in that it was a very masculine sent, but wasn’t offensive or musky. The citrus of the grapefruit really adds a nice stamp to the scent.

Lastly we were finally able to answer the burning question”What does freedom smell like?” as we sampled Patriot based on good old Steve Rogers himself, Captain America. Patriot was created using green lime and white pepper with dry oak wood, sandalwood, and tequila accords. The spiciness of the white pepper us what really makes Patriot stand out. The lime, oak, sandalwood, and tequila make a great foundation, but the white pepper just makes the senses come alive. If this is what freedom smells like, they it is a sweet smell indeed.

Overall Impressions

Of the four Patriot and Smash stand out from the pack. But like with any fragrance you will have to test them for yourself to make sure they work with your chemistry and your own personal taste. We will say that the Avengers line is definitely worthy or your time and attention.
