The Happy Hour: The French 75

Cocktail_French-75

Dating back to the early 1900’s, the French 75 was created in Paris and shortly found its way to the US where it popularized by New York’s famed Stork Club. The name for the cocktail comes from its combination being said to have such a kick that it felt like being shelled with the powerful French 75mm field gun.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 2 ounces gin
  • 3 ounces plus 1 tablespoon chilled Champagne
  • lemon peel for garnish

Preparation

In cocktail shaker, combine lemon juice, sugar, gin, and ice cubes and shake to chill. Strain cocktail into Champagne flute and top off with Champagne. (Alternatively, Colin Field suggests serving drink over ice in tumbler.) Garnish with lemon peel and serve.

Enjoy!
